June 3, 2016 – Garud Technology Services, Inc. recently completed this NLWA Study, which was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology (DHS S&T) Borders and Maritime Division (BMD). The study was conducted in coordination with BMD and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from March 2015 to May 2016. Its focus was an Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) of developmental and currently-available non-lethal force solutions to support U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) operations. During the course of this effort, Garud worked closely with key Stakeholders from the CBP Use of Force Center of Excellence, and the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate (JNLWD).
The study identified, assessed, and ranked non-lethal weapons with respect to their ability to meet USBP requirements. The outcomes will help CBP better equip USBP agents, enhancing their ability to address the full spectrum of possible use-of-force encounters. Additionally, it will provide BMD and other key DHS Stakeholder the basis for making portfolio investment decisions in this capability area.
